Mural for the Arts
 |
This year we wanted to involve students, to share with them the possibilities and opportunities that exists in the arts. Romero has become the premier contemporary pop artist of his generation. He is a South Florida resident and is internationally recognized as a leading pop artist.
He spent four days with our sixteen students, two in his studio and Gallery in Miami Beach and two days here at the Museum. Romero shared with them his time, his artistic talent, the studio, marketing and business experience. This did allow the students to see that being an artist is more than beautiful art.
On Monday, March 23 the first day at the studio ended with Romero sketching out the Mural for the Arts and the students painting in the first layer of color. The students then went to Romero’s Lincoln Road Gallery to see how the retail side of the studio operates on Tuesday March 24.
Romero worked with the students at the Coral Springs Museum of Art on May 4 & 5, 2009 to complete the Mural for the Arts, which was dedicated on May 5.
Thank you to Romero Britto for being an artistic activist and believing that “art is too important not to share”. Thank you to our generous sponsors for making AIR 2009 possible. And to Estee Mandel for being the project manager and liaison to Britto Central.
