ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE 2006

Year One

Art for Peace
A better understanding of culture
and a message for peace through art

The Artist-In-Residence program, begun 5 years ago by Coral Springs Museum of Art, will host sculptors of international acclaim from five continents: Europe, Africa, North America, South America and Asia. The theme is Art for Peace and the scope of the project is so immense that it will take two years to complete – 2006 through 2007.

On Saturday, January 7, 2006, three stone-cutters came together for 21 days to create three new sculptures for a special, permanent section of the Museum's grounds, the International Peace Garden. All in all, these sculptors chipped and sawed way at more than 10 tons (20,000 pounds) of stone.

· Armen Agop, from Egypt - black granite from Zimbabwe;
· Lothar Nickel, from Germany - pink marble from Portugal;
· Roy Patterson, from Maine - granite from New England.

Visitors were invited to come by the Museum to watch the artists at work, to ask them questions, and to learn about the countries that are their homes.
