Thread Painting Statement
Ten years ago I began using thread painting in my large textiles
and became fascinated with the idea of painting with thread
in ways similar to my painting with oils, acrylics, and pastels.
Beginning with the darks and lights I stitch in an underpainting,
then build the stitches to completely cover the surface. I
use two or three layers of canvas as a base for the stitches.
I enjoy the zen-like quality of straight machine stitching
and am challenged by the effort of keeping even the smallest
shapes intact.
