Saturday Chautauqua Series

Our version of the popular turn of the century traveling tent shows that included art exhibits, lectures and music "to improve and renew our ties to one another".

Chautauqua, the infusion of culture and entertainment into the heart of the community, comes to life in CSMART's Saturday Chautauqua Series. Performances by an array of Broward artists immerse families in series of musical and cultural experiences. CSMART's Saturday Chautauqua is held January through March, consisting of six artistic performances featuring Broward talent. The performances are held in the Museum galleries, surrounded by visual art exhibitions. Our Chautauqua program offers a wide range of literary, musical and dramatic performances that provide the community with accessible, enriching, quality programming. The purpose of holding these performances in the Museum is to combine the visual and performing art experience.

For CSMART's 2013 Saturday Chautauqua Series the Museum will be collaborating with:

• January 5 - Les Blachut - Cold War Jazz - Performance and presentation.
• Les Blachut is a versatile musician experienced in jazz improvisation, ethnic music worldwide, experimental collaborations, and fusion of contrasting styles.


• January 19 - Association of Performing Arts of India (APAI) - History of Indian Dance Presentation and dance demonstration.
• The APAI features caliber artists showcasing South Asian classical dance, music, and dramatic performances.


• February 2 - Gold Coast Jazz Society - FREE CONCERT.
• The Gold Coast Jazz Society is entertaining and educating South Florida with live jazz concerts.


• February 23 - Pablo Cano's Musical Marionettes - Performance and questions and answers.
• Pablo Cano's Musical Marionettes will perform this afternoon in the Main Gallery of the Coral Springs Museum of Art. The performers will sing and dance to American Pop Songs from the 1920's and 30's. Meet the famous, Nikki the Ant, Bull Fighter, Kandy Kane, Minty & Bing, Chinese Princess, Countess Ukelele and the Clone Clowns. These fantastical performers are created by Pablo from everyday items and they are more than happy to perform for you! A wonderful program for ages 3 to 100. The marionettes in this perfoamnce were originally commissioned by The Museum of Contemporary Art in North Miami, FL.


• March 2 - Florida Folk Music with Grant Livingston - Performance.
• Grant Livingston is a musician whose songs reflect his love for South Florida's land and waters, creatures and people. Grant weaves history, environment, and social commentary through these songs.


• March 23 - Nzingah Andinkra and African Traditions.


• Saturday Chautauqua's are held on various Saturdays during January, February and March, beginning at 3pm. Museum admission applies. Please call 954.340.5000 to reserve your seat.
